Special Olympics World Summer Games On Now

The Special Olympics World Summer Games Abu Dhabi 2019 are now underway and our very own Arianna Phillips is competing in Track and Field. To see her competition schedule and follow the results you can visit the official games page. TSN will also be broadcasting parts of the games and you can see the schedule here.

Pictured is Arianna (right) enjoying Dubai with fellow BC athlete April Armstrong.

The Nanaimo floor hockey team was fortunate to have the VIU Mariners stop by for the final night of the season. It was an action packed game with lots of laughs, goals, banter and most importantly, smiles all around. The athletes were so excited to have them there. Of course, it made it that much better for our athletes to be victorious over the mariners in a hard fought game. It was a perfect ending to a great season. Even though I took over about half way through the season, the athletes, care givers, parents and Special Olympics staff & volunteers were amazing and welcomed me with open arms. I grew attached to my team almost immediately and can’t wait to see what the years ahead will hold for us. Coach Cole

Active Start Looking for More Athletes!

A reminder to everyone that our Active Start program runs Mondays at Departure Bay Elementary, 5:30-6:30. Our head coach is Angelina Passarelli, Angelinap1921.

Active Start is a family-centred activity program for children with an intellectual disability ages 2-6. Through the program, children learn basic motor skills such as walking, running, jumping, balancing and throwing in a fun and safe environment.
It is designed for younger athletes to learn and grow at their own pace through fun. As the weeks progress we work to build on and further develop various skill sets; while offering an introduction to team sports such as soccer, T-ball, track and field.

Bad Weather Reminder

As the weather changes we want to remind everyone about our winter weather policy. It’s really easy to remember that if there’s snow, Special Olympics is a No Go! We want everyone to remember safety first when the weather is poor.
